There is no better way to learn than by doing.

PRM—the print edition

After a first term learning graphic design, Adobe software, and writing for publication, Publishing students produce Pacific Rim Magazine, a full-colour print publication distributed with Canada’s largest-circulation national newspaper, The Globe and Mail.

Among the range of recognition PRM has received are these recent awards:

  • 2016: College Media Association Pinnacle Awards:
Winner, Website of the Year (Two-Year Program)
  • 2016: College Media Association Pinnacle Awards:
Runner-Up, Magazine of the Year (Two-Year Program)
  • 2016: Stack Awards
Finalist, Student Magazine of the Year
  • 2015: College Media Association Pinnacle Awards
    Best Feature Magazine (Two-Year Program)
  • 2014: College Media Association Pinnacle Awards
    Best Photo Illustration
  • 2012: Western Magazine Awards
    Student Writing Award
  • 2011: College Media Association Apple Awards
    Winner, General Interest Magazine

These awards recognize not only the quality of our students’ work, but also the value of the experiential learning process at the heart of Pacific Rim Magazine: a hands-on real-world endeavour that teaches collaborative skills, professional practices and creative problem-solving.

Students apply for positions in the Editorial, Art, Advertising, Production, or Promotions departments. Taking on these job responsibilities, you will collaborate with students in the Professional Photography and Business programs while learning the day-to-day operations of commercial print magazine production.

Imagine producing award-winning work in your second term. With Pacific Rim Magazine and the Publishing program, you can.

LangaraPRM.com—the online edition

In the summer Web Production course, Publishing students transform the magazine content into a website.

The experiential, project-based model used in the spring term is echoed, this time featuring web-specific teams: Editorial, Design, Development, Promotions, & Testing.

In May, students start working in HTML & CSS. By July, they're writing WordPress sites in PHP. The production of the website allows them to hone new coding and user experience abilities while refining design, writing, illustration, and Photoshop skills.
