Welcome to the Mental Health Ambassadors program! Mental Health Ambassadors (MHA) participate in promoting mental health and well-being to Langara students and running outreach events and initiatives for the Langara student community. Mental Health Ambassadors increase the emotional and psychological well-being of the student population and act as a bridge between student services and students.

Ambassadors support education and well-being events on campus for Langara students as well as participate in campus events like Mindful Mondays Wellness Wednesdays, Thriving Thursdays, Midterm Power Up, De-Stress Fest, and others.

Become a Mental Health Ambassador

Each term, Mental Health Initiatives recruits paid and volunteer Mental Health Ambassadors (MHA). We are looking for students interested in promoting mental health and well-being in themselves and others. We typically have 2-4 paid work positions (3-5 hours/week) and about 10 or more volunteers (hours vary). Fall 2025 volunteer applications are now CLOSED check back next semester to sign up or email the Coordinator to go on the waitlist. 

Mental Health Ambassador Role Description 

Promotes and represents the Mental Health Ambassador Program by raising awareness of student mental health resources, services, support and opportunities at Langara College. Mental Health Ambassadors (MHA) must have a passion for mental health and well-being. Mental Health Ambassadors are peer educators that work closely with Student Services. The program is designed to engage the Langara College community on mental health and to reduce the stigma associated with seeking help. 

Duties: 

  • Communicates with a group of students to determine needs
  • Supports to deliver well-being initiatives and events that support wellness or our current Langara students, some public speaking required
  • Helps to promote a culture of well-being on campus
  • Acts as a bridge for students and support resources on and off campus
  • Completes training hours designed by supervisor
  • Provides feedback and ideas to supervisor to improve well-being initiatives at Langara 

Requirements: 

  • For paid positions, students must be eligible for GROW program and have completed 1 semester volunteering with MHA
  • Volunteers and paid positions must be current Langara College students enrolled/ registered for the term they are volunteering/working in
  • Volunteers and paid positions must not have any breaches with the Standards of Student Conduct
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate courteously and effectively in person with employees,  students and the public
  • Ability to be empathic, inclusive and respectful
  • Proven ability to work as a team member
  • Complete all required training
  • Comfortable and interested in gaining experience with leadership and public speaking
