Kelowna, BC - The Langara School of Management (LSM) sponsored junior and senior teams to the Western Canadian Business Competition (WCBC) on March 11th to 13th, 2016. Along with Langara School of Management, a total of eleven teams competed at the Okanagan College campus including Okanagan College, St. Lawrence College (ON) Capilano University, Medicine Hat, Selkirk College, College of the Rockies, and College of New Caledonia.
Business competitions provide a platform for students to test and prove their business acumen. Each team is composed of (at a minimum) a marketing, business, and financial student. These students were presented with a detailed business simulation that includes eight years of business financials and information. Over one weekend, the teams must analyze the “health” of the business. Ultimately, the final presentation is an in-depth pitch on how to better the business status to a panel of industry experts. Students are judged on their ability analyze the business and provide strategic advice, along with many other factors. This year’s competition included 11 teams comprised of six junior and five senior. The LSM sponsored both a senior team and junior team.
LSM’s teams had a great time and very successful event. Following are the results for the LSM students:
Junior Q&A Winners: Andrew Wang & Gave Shshka
Senior Q&A Winners: Wince Leung & Johnson Nguyen
The senior team placed third and also received the highest level for the Strategic Report portion of the competition.
Congratulations are extended to all of the WCBC competitors, but especially to Andrew, Gave, Wince and Johnson from the LSM student body – Great Job!
