BBA Alumnus, Jaysen MahVancouver, BC – Langara School of Management would like to congratulate alumnus, Jaysen Mah, named on the prestigious Canadian Chartered Accountants National Honour Roll.

Jaysen graduated from the CA Program at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC ceremony on May 30 in Vancouver. During the ceremony, Jaysen was recognized as one of the top 50 students in the country who completed the challenging uniform final examination (UFE) in September 2014.

The UFE is a national 3-day evaluation that assesses competencies including essential knowledge, professional judgment, ethics and the ability to communicate. 3,500 candidates completed the exam last year.

When asked to comment about his recognition on the National Honour Roll, Jaysen said he would like to congratulate each and every successful UFE candidate that made it through.  “I know what you went through to get there, and I am proud of each and every one of you – we are done!”

After graduating from the Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting from Langara in 2011, Jaysen went onto attend the CA School of Business to receive pre-certification education for the CA.

“The CA program has refined my problem solving skills, made me a better communicator, taught me how to analyze problems and changed the way I approach situations. Essentially, it has set me up for success and exposed me to many of the situations I would face in one of those management rolls.”

The uniform final examination (UFE) is just one component required to receive the Chartered Accountants qualification.  In addition to a university degree, candidates must also have 30 months of qualifying practical experience, and a minimum number of assurance, and tax hours to be designated as a CA.

Dr. Leelah Dawson, Dean of Langara's Faculty of Social Science and Management congratulated Jaysen and noted “Langara’s BBA emphasizes real world application in every course. As a result, we prepare students like Jaysen to shine as they begin their careers. Jaysen’s exceptional accomplishment speaks to his hard work and dedication as well as the education provided by our excellent instructors and through Co-op. We are very proud of him!”

Jaysen completed two co-op placements during his time at Langara College and credits them to helping to fast track his career and education progression.

“The experience I gained through my co-op terms was invaluable. It gave me a taste of what the “real world” was like, and helped me focus my remaining studies. It provided context as to what we were actually learning at school, and exposed me to a number of different areas of work.”

Jaysen is currently working as a Financial Consultant at Iridia Medical and hopes to eventually move into a management position with a company, whether it be a CFO, COO, or CEO.
