Description of Position: 

This posting is for one temporary part-time position teaching a portion of FMST 1115 – Perspectives on Family Studies.  This course is designed to introduce students to the definitions, concepts, experiences, dynamics, and the theories of family through an interdisciplinary approach.  It will guide students to more specialized Family Studies core courses: History of the Family, Sociology and the Family and Psychology of the Family.  It is a team-taught course so applicants must be able to work cooperatively with other instructors in the development of curriculum, major assignment, integration of lectures and team marking of exams and major assignment.  The successful applicant will have experience teaching course of similar content and instructional structure, specifically on issues related to the dynamics of personal relationships.

Required Qualifications:            

  • minimum Masters Degree in area relevant to Family Studies, Psychology and/or group-dynamics
  • demonstrated post-secondary teaching experience
  • experience and willingness to teach within a team environment
  • available to teach Wednesdays, 13:30 – 16:20
  • experience with use of current teaching / learning technologies an asset

Length of appointment: one semester, 4 months, September 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017

Start Date: Sept. 1, 2017

Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
