This position reports to the Manager, Student Conduct & Judicial Affairs and assists the manager in the development, implementation and coordination of the College’s student conduct and judicial affairs functions.  The Student Conduct Officer works with students, faculty and staff to address confidential student conduct issues and takes the initiative in identifying students needing support.

The Student Conduct Officer reviews academic and non-academic student conduct issues and investigates allegations referred by the College community. The Officer reviews policies, provides case management of allegations, and recommends action in accordance with policy.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining systems to effectively track and monitor sanctions, and carrying out statistical analyses and reporting of student conduct cases. The Student Conduct Officer is required to work with a high volume of information and materials that are of a confidential and/or sensitive nature within a high stress, time pressured environment.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Minimally four (4) years of progressive related experience, preferably in a post-secondary institution.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Formal training in one or more of conflict resolution, alternate dispute resolution, restorative justice and administrative law is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of interviewing and fact-finding techniques. 
  • Thorough knowledge of report writing and presenting. 
  • Considerable knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software. 
  • Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic. 
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation affecting student conduct such as FOIPOP, BC Human Rights Code, Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act, College and Institute Act.
  • Working knowledge of threat/risk assessment procedures. 
  • Familiarity with sexual misconduct response processes in a post-secondary environment.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy and exercise judgment in interactions with students of concern. 
  • Ability to interpret and explain the applicable rules and regulations that govern Student Conduct and Judicial Affairs activities. 
  • Ability to plan, organize and evaluate student education and awareness events.
  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills, including problem solving and needs analysis.
  • Ability to utilize alternate forms of dispute resolution such as mediation and/or restorative justice.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with College administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and demonstrate initiative.

Salary Range: $2,088.61 - $2,610.77 Bi-Weekly (Pay Grade K)

Employee Group: ADMIN

Hours & Days of Work: 8:30am - 4:30pm. Monday to Friday, however, hours may vary according to the needs of the department. This position is not subject to the compressed workweek schedule.
